Farry Urges Families to Take Advantage of Pennsylvania 529 Guaranteed College Savings Plan
10/7/2009
As the cost of college continues to rise and family budgets continue to shrink, Rep. Frank Farry (R-Bucks) reminds residents that the Pennsylvania Treasury offers a smart, lower-risk way to make college up to 50 percent less expensive than paying with loans through the Pennsylvania 529 Guaranteed Savings Plan (GSP).

A Commonwealth program administered by the Pennsylvania Treasury Department, the GSP offers a range of resources specifically designed to help Pennsylvania families save for their child’s higher education.

How a Pennsylvania 529 Guaranteed Savings Plan works:
  • Contribute whatever you can.
  • Save enough for a semester of college today and use those funds to pay for college tomorrow.
  • Lower your state and federal taxes.
  • Use at colleges, trade, and career schools.
  • Covers many expenses besides tuition, such as room and board.
Farry added that residents who open an account can save $50 with a waiver of the enrollment fee by entering the savings code “PAHOUSE09.” Students who register will be eligible for a chance to win a $25,000 scholarship or one of four $2,500 scholarships.

The offer ends Oct. 13.
